Congenital corneal leukoplakia is due to abnormal development of the ectoderm and mesoderm during embryonic development of the eye and is not hereditary. Acquired corneal leukoplakia is a serious complication of keratitis or corneal trauma and is caused by a variety of acquired factors and is not hereditary.
