Is chronic cervicitis serious?

Chronic cervical inflammation is the most common type of gynecologic disease, mostly in women of childbearing age. Most of the symptoms of chronic cervicitis are not typical. The symptoms that appear are mainly increased vaginal discharge, which can be milky white mucus-like or yellowish-purulent depending on the pathogen, and bloody leucorrhea or post-coital bleeding when accompanied by polyp formation. When the inflammation spreads to the pelvic cavity, lumbosacral pain and pelvic drop can occur. For chronic cervicitis, according to the different pathological types of chronic inflammation, local treatment, physical therapy, drug therapy and surgical treatment can be used. Commonly used physical therapy methods include cryotherapy, electro-ironing, laser therapy, microwave therapy, infrared coagulation therapy, etc. In order to prevent cervicitis, women should pay attention to vulva cleanliness, sexual hygiene, exercise to improve their resistance, actively treat acute cervicitis, and have regular gynecological examinations. For chronic cervicitis, it is a kind of inflammation, if there are no typical symptoms, it can be left untreated, but attention should be paid to the differentiation between chronic inflammation and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and early cervical cancer, which are easily confused from the appearance, and cervical cytology and cervical HPV-DNA examination must be performed routinely.
