Is photodynamic therapy for acromegaly effective?

Condyloma acuminatum is a sexually transmitted disease caused by human papillomavirus infection that is mainly manifested by proliferative damage in the anogenital area. It is highly contagious and recurrent and develops in the vulva, usually in the genital area or around the anus in both men and women. Photodynamic therapy is a better way to treat condyloma acuminata, which is a type of laser treatment that removes the warts but does not completely eliminate the virus from the body. The treatment process applies photosensitizer to the affected area, then focuses on the lesion and irradiates it with a specific light source to change the photosensitizer from the ground state to the excited state, and rapidly releases energy to produce active oxygen substances. The active oxygen substance interacts with macromolecules to cause damage to the diseased tissue and achieve the therapeutic effect. Since the virus cannot be removed from the patient’s body, for this reason, after using photodynamic therapy, in order to reduce recurrence, it is also necessary to use interferon and other drugs for immunomodulatory treatment, and the treatment course is generally in the period of 3 to 6 months. During the treatment period, patients should pay attention to the prohibition of sexual life, to maintain a good routine, quit smoking and drinking, strictly forbidden to stay up late, avoid spicy, stimulating food, and at the same time, appropriate physical exercise, to enhance their own immunity, to effectively prevent recurrence.
