The principles of treatment for endometriosis vary depending on the age of the patient and whether or not they have fertility requirements. For younger patients with no requirement for fertility, non-steroidal painkillers or highly effective progestins and contraceptives can be taken for milder symptoms, and surgery can be considered for severe symptoms. For older patients with fertility requirements, surgical treatment and ovulation promotion to guide conception can be considered first. In case of severe endometriosis, or if the patient has a combination of ovarian hypofunction, tubal obstruction, low or weak sperm in the male partner, assisted reproductive technology treatment should be implemented as early as possible.
