Is it good to eat more eggs?

British experts say that limiting the number of eggs eaten each week is not very effective in lowering cholesterol and that there is no harm in people eating more eggs. According to the BBC, researchers at the University of Surrey have analyzed several studies on egg nutrition and noted that many people still believe that eating more than three eggs a week is bad for their health. In fact, this is an erroneous view based on outdated theories. Griffin, a professor at the University of Surrey, points out that eggs are actually an important part of a healthy diet because they are rich in nutrients. He says, “The deep-rooted misconception that eggs are associated with high blood cholesterol and heart disease must be corrected.” Griffin said, “On the level of impact on blood cholesterol, the amount of saturated fat we consume from a poor diet is several times higher than the relatively small amount of cholesterol in food that could cause the impact.” Elevated blood cholesterol will raise the risk of heart disease, however, only one-third of the cholesterol in the body comes from the diet. Other factors, such as smoking, being overweight and physical activity, may also affect blood lipid and cholesterol levels. Griffin believes that people should not limit the number of eggs they eat each week, but should include eggs in their diet because they are “one of the most nutrient-dense foods available”. The British Heart Foundation has stopped recommending that people limit their eggs to three per week since 2007. However, a local study showed that as many as 45 percent of consumers still believe that eggs should not be eaten in excess. Eggs contain cholesterol, but that doesn’t usually raise blood cholesterol levels,” said Taylor, senior nutritionist at the Heart Foundation. If you want to lower your cholesterol levels, it’s more important to reduce the amount of saturated fat in your diet, such as fatty meats, full-fat dairy products and cakes, cookies and snacks.”
