How to determine the histological type of a child with congenital hyperinsulinemia?

Accurate determination of the histological type of children with congenital hyperinsulinemia is important for the establishment of the treatment plan and the selection of the surgical approach. At present, there are two ways to determine the histological type of the pancreas in children before surgery: (a) 18F-L-Dopa PET-SCAN pancreatic scan technique: this technique is not yet mature in China, and domestic children are mainly referred to Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital to have it done. Apply for a Hong Kong and Macau Permit in advance, and contact the hospital in advance, then send a brief medical history of the child. The Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital will give you an appointment for a specific time to go to Hong Kong. According to the patients who have been there: a round trip of three or four days and a cost of 30,000 to 40,000 RMB will be enough to get the results of the child’s scan. The accuracy of determining the histological type of the child’s pancreas by this technique is about 90-95%. (ii) Sequencing and analysis of pathogenic genes. It is recommended that in areas where conditions are available, the causative gene mutation analysis of congenital hyperinsulinemia should be performed on the affected child as soon as possible after diagnosis is confirmed. The possible histological type of the pancreas of the child can be initially determined based on the sequencing results of the causative gene of the child, and the histological type of the pancreas of the child can be more precisely determined by combining the scan results of the pancreas of the child.
