What are the clinical features of paediatric enteritis?

In mild cases, the main manifestation is diarrhoea, including an increased number of stools, ≥3 times a day, thin stools, watery stools, egg-flake soup-like stools, mucus-purulent stools, etc. In severe cases, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, depression and other manifestations may occur. Children with rotavirus enteritis tend to have egg-like stools without a fishy smell, while children with norovirus enteritis often have abdominal pain as their first symptom and children with enteritis caused by virulent bacteria may have oily mucus in their stools.
