Sore throat is not a typical symptom of novel pneumonia; it is most often seen in diseases such as influenza, pharyngitis, and tonsillitis. Although there is a lack of sufficient clinical information on the symptoms of novel coronavirus pneumonia, based on the existing patient presentations, the symptoms tend to be fever, malaise, and dry cough, which may gradually develop dyspnea as the disease progresses, but usually without the symptoms of sore throat. If a patient presents with fever and imaging features of pneumonia in addition to a sore throat, and has a history of travel or residence in the Wuhan area 14 days prior to the onset of the disease, he or she should be given high priority and promptly go to the hospital for nucleic acid testing of the novel coronavirus for a definitive diagnosis.
