How to determine seborrheic alopecia

Seborrheic alopecia can be judged on the basis of clinical manifestations, hair pulling test, dermoscopy and so on.
1. Clinical manifestations: seborrheic alopecia is mainly characterized by increased oil secretion from the scalp, greasy hair, dandruff, itching and other symptoms. Male alopecia is mostly characterized by gradual receding of the hairline on the forehead and bilateral sideburns, or gradual thinning of hair on the top of the head. Women may have hair loss around the hairline, gradually thinning hair to both sides, generally the forehead will not lose hair.
2. Hair pulling test: keep the hair without washing for 5 days, pull up 50 to 60 hairs with thumb and forefinger, slide gently, if more than 6 hairs fall out, it is positive, on the contrary, it is negative, and positive indicates that there is abnormal hair loss.
3. Dermoscopic examination: the patient’s hair loss area can be observed with the help of dermoscopy. For seborrheic alopecia patients, the hair loss area often shows uneven thickness of hair. In women, the number of hairs in the follicles is also reduced.
When seborrheic alopecia is suspected, it is recommended to consult a doctor in a timely manner to improve the relevant examinations and standardize the treatment.
