Trigeminal nerve radiofrequency thermocoagulation

Trigeminal neuralgia is a pain in the region of the head and face innervated by the trigeminal nerve, mostly in the chin, lips, upper and lower alveoli, tongue, nose, infraorbital, supraorbital, temporal and preauricular areas, and is known as the “king of pain”. The use of chemical destruction of the peripheral branch of the trigeminal nerve, trigeminal ganglion or radiofrequency thermal coagulation treatment can achieve long-term elimination of pain, which is one of the most effective methods to treat trigeminal neuralgia. Our department adopts CT-guided puncture, which makes the treatment more accurate and safer, and the cure rate is over 90%. This treatment method can control the pain of patients quickly and for a longer period of time. However, the method has certain side effects, that is, the face will be left with different degrees of numbness and sensation, but it does not affect the facial muscles and expressions, does not affect eating, etc., and is generally easier for patients to accept. Because this therapy has a high success rate and is relatively safe, it is especially suitable for elderly patients. This treatment is not suitable for patients who are engaged in music, rap, etc. These patients should choose neurosurgical vascular decompression as a more appropriate option. Our hospital has treated hundreds of patients with trigeminal neuralgia with satisfactory results.
