Shanghai Jiao Tong University Atrial Fibrillation Clinic Atrial Fibrillation Express: Time to perform ablation again for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation patients with postoperative recurrence: After ablation in paroxysmal atrial fibrillation patients, a portion of the patients will have a certain rate of recurrence after ablation, generally around 10-20%, and most of the time of recurrence will be after one week of the operation. The cause of recurrence is the recovery of pulmonary venous potentials, and recognizing this cause is important because the decision to perform another ablation can be well understood. Since the cause of recurrence of AF is the return of potentials, the disease can only be cured by removing the pulmonary vein potentials again. So in these patients, the ablation can be performed again as soon as AF recurs one week after the procedure. And the ablation can be completed in just a few minutes, without having to wait three months. This choice of treatment is based on the experience of our clinic, which is based on extensive clinical work. As a reminder, atrial fibrillation ablation is performed via the vascular route and leaves no scars after the procedure, so this treatment is not affected by the seasons.
