What to look for in a thyroiditis diet

Thyroiditis is a group of diseases caused by the destruction of thyroid follicles. At different times in the course of the disease, the destroyed thyroid follicles can leak thyroid hormones causing hyperthyroidism and also cause hypothyroidism due to insufficient secretion from the destroyed follicles, so their diet should be adjusted according to their status. During hyperthyroidism: Iodine-containing foods should be taken with caution. Iodine can relieve goiter, but it is also a raw material for thyroid hormone synthesis, which can aggravate hyperthyroidism. Hypothyroidism: For hypothyroidism caused by iodine deficiency, iodine-containing foods such as kelp and nori should be used in moderation. However, it is important to note that iodized salt should not be put into boiling oil to prevent iodine from volatilizing and reducing iodine concentration. For protein supplementation, eggs, dairy, meat and fish can be used; for vegetable protein, various soy products and soybeans can be used. The supply of animal liver can correct anemia, and also ensure the supply of various vegetables and fresh fruits. In general, the effect of diet on thyroiditis is not obvious, and most patients with thyroiditis do not have obvious symptoms, so it is difficult to detect clinically, so although dietary adjustments are helpful, they can only be used as an adjunct to regular treatment, so do not put your hopes entirely on dietary treatment, but still adhere to regular treatment and timely monitoring of hormone levels.
