Thyroid inflammation usually heals in a few days

The healing time of thyroid inflammation is related to the type of disease, individual’s constitution and the severity of the disease, and cannot be generalized. The main types of thyroid inflammation include acute septic, subacute granulomatous, subacute lymphocytic, and chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. The first two types of thyroid inflammation are caused by pathogenic bacterial infections and generally do not require treatment if symptoms are mild and can heal spontaneously in 4-6 weeks, and some can heal in about 3-6 months with anti-infection and symptom-specific treatment. Subacute lymphocytic thyroiditis has both postpartum onset and disseminated forms and is most common in middle-aged women. Most patients will return to normal thyroid function after 1-8 months of treatment, but very few patients will remain permanently hypothyroid. Chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, including Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and atrophic thyroiditis, has no effective treatment options and is usually not curable. Patients with thyroid inflammation should maintain a good mood, stop smoking and drinking, eat a light diet, consume foods rich in vitamin A such as carrots, and be actively treated under the guidance of a doctor.
