First of all, only nodules suspected of tumor need to be removed surgically and biopsy pathology is the basic medical principle; however, this judgment is closely related to the level and attitude of the doctor. Secondly, how can we know whether the nodule is a tumor or not? Firstly, to rule out tumor, doctors usually need to do comprehensive assessment through physical examination, ultrasound and mammography; if the nodule can be palpated, doctors’ experience and level are very important; palpation can usually determine whether surgery is needed; secondly, if the nodule cannot be palpated, those who are over 35 years old should combine with mammography; if tumor is still suspected and cannot be determined, MRI should also be combined; thirdly. If the mammogram is okay, just the ultrasound shows the nodule, usually there is no big problem, but we need to remind you that the ultrasound result has a lot to do with the ultrasonographer’s level, in general, the ultrasonographers in big hospitals have a lot of experience because of the large amount of patients and more work. If after several ultrasound reviews, still BIRADS 4A class or above, the nodule is increasing or changing in nature, it needs to be removed for biopsy, but it should be noted that sometimes during or near menstruation, there can be blood flow, which is why breast visits should be avoided during menstruation. This is also why some women ask me to determine if they need surgery with the ultrasound results from some small hospitals and I am not able to answer. This is also the reason why you have to redo the ultrasound when you come to our hospital. Fourth, the consultation should choose a large hospital, specialist doctors, because there are levels and benefits of the reason, small hospitals may be more aggressive in surgery. Finally, we need to tell you that mastopexy nodules are very common, 60-80%. Please read my article on hyperplasia and hyperplastic nodules for more information on how to treat hyperplastic nodules. In that case, it is not always necessary to go to a major hospital to see a doctor. If it is just breast pain, related to menstruation and emotions, no palpable lump in the breast and local ultrasound shows no suspicion of a tumor, there is usually no problem, but an annual checkup at a major hospital is still a must.
