People at high risk for lymphedema may be at risk of developing lymphedema by performing single, repetitive, high-frequency movements for long periods of time.
For such movements, it is recommended that:
- People at high risk wear appropriate compression cuffs and palm sleeves prior to manipulation.
- Perform in segments, e.g., rest for about 10 minutes after 20-30 minutes of manipulation before continuing.
- Take care to protect your hands from injury when doing manuals.
- Take care of your self-awareness during the operation and stop immediately if you experience any discomfort such as soreness, pain, numbness, rising or heaviness.
