Precautions after thyroid surgery

  Thyroid disease is a relatively common disease, and surgical treatment has good efficacy, and paying attention to all aspects after surgery can effectively prevent complications and reduce its mortality.  (1) Pay attention to whether there is blood oozing from the surgical wound, whether there is infection, and whether there is fever and other abnormalities. Pay attention to the occurrence of hand and foot twitching. If it occurs, it suggests that hypocalcemia may be caused by hypoparathyroidism. In this case, the calcium level in the blood and parathyroid hormone level should be checked, and calcium should be supplemented in a timely manner.  (2) Postoperative drainage tubes are placed to drain blood and exudate from the surgical wound. Anti-discharge tube and observe the color of drainage.  2.Post-discharge precautions: (1) Do not wet the wound within one week after surgery to avoid infection, bathe with water for two weeks after surgery, and do not use bathing lotion or soap at the incision. Avoid tilting your head as much as possible within half a month to avoid incision cracking.  (2) Thyroid function cannot be compensated usually need to take thyroxine tablets, this medicine is recommended to be taken daily in the morning on an empty stomach, the absorption rate is high. Consult your doctor for the dosage of this medication, who will adjust the dosage according to the results of serum thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) monitoring.  (3) Eat a semi-liquid diet such as noodles, porridge and egg custard in the early postoperative period to facilitate swallowing and reduce wound pain. Generally, a warm or cool liquid or semi-liquid diet can be given on the second day after surgery, and too much iodine-containing food should not be consumed to avoid increasing the possibility of recurrence, and a balanced diet should be given. Patients can be given foods high in calcium and low in phosphorus, such as green leafy vegetables, soy products, etc.  (4) Postoperative neck exercise, the neck and trunk should be kept rotating at the same time within one week after surgery; put your hand behind your head to support the weight of your head when sitting up in bed or bending and moving your neck. Practice slight head nodding, head tilting, stretching and rotating the neck from side to side 2 weeks after surgery.
