Topical use of low doses of oestrogen is generally considered safe, but there is a risk of adverse effects such as breast tenderness and abnormal vaginal bleeding and is not recommended for breast cancer patients, especially those on anti-estrogen therapy, those who have had endometrial cancer, those with abnormal vaginal bleeding and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
