Hypertension grading instructions

Patients with hypertension can be classified into the following 3 levels according to their blood pressure levels: 1. Grade 1 hypertension: patients with systolic blood pressure >140 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure >90 mmHg; 2. Grade 2 hypertension: systolic blood pressure >160 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure >100 mmHg; 3. Grade 3 hypertension: systolic blood pressure >180 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure >110 mmHg. For patients with grade 1 hypertension, lifestyle interventions can be given temporarily, and if the blood pressure remains persistently elevated then additional antihypertensive drugs can be considered to control the blood pressure to normal levels. For patients with grade 2 and 3 hypertension, lifestyle interventions should be actively given along with the addition of antihypertensive drugs to control the blood pressure to the standard as soon as possible to avoid cardiovascular and cerebrovascular complications.
