How to properly treat atrophic gastritis

What is atrophic gastritis? Atrophic gastritis is commonly referred to as the atrophy and reduction of gastric mucosal glands due to recurrent chronic inflammation of the stomach, as opposed to superficial gastritis which only affects superficial mucosal inflammation. Some atrophic gastritis can cause pathological changes such as intestinal epithelial metaplasia and intraepithelial neoplasia, and about 0,5% of patients with atrophic gastritis may evolve into gastric cancer. Secondly, there is no need to be nervous about the discovery of atrophic gastritis, that is, do not fear cancer. Because there is no necessary connection between atrophic gastritis and gastric cancer, that is to say, very few of them are really cancerous. Then, what should we do as patients? I think it is still necessary to adhere to treatment and regular review. One is to seek medical help everywhere, even numbly follow the advertisement and use medicine indiscriminately. The second is to think that it is not good to see, so do not care about it (especially some Western doctors, because of the lack of effective treatment, it is believed that it can not be reversed anyway, so do not treat). Why should we treat it? First of all atrophic gastritis will out bloating, loss of appetite, stomach pain and other symptoms, which will seriously affect your quality of life. Secondly it is true that a small percentage of patients can become cancerous, and it is still important to intervene to treat and detect it in time. Then again, about 60% or so of patients can still be reversed through reasonable treatment with Chinese herbal medicine. How often is it good to review gastroscopy for patients with atrophic gastritis? It depends on the situation. If there is intraepithelial neoplasia and significant inflammatory hyperplasia, it is best to check it around 6 months. In case of general atrophic gastritis, a check-up once every 1-2 years is sufficient. However, if the treatment is not effective, there is a family history of gastric cancer, etc., again, it depends on the situation. What if there is no change in the review? Many patients are frustrated when there is no reversal in the review, but it is not necessary. After all, it is more difficult to reverse atrophic gastritis, especially for patients with long duration of the disease and old age. So we need to have a good attitude, as patients with atrophic gastritis, to solve the symptoms, improve the quality of life, not cancerous or early detection of cancer tendency, is also the purpose of our treatment.
