PET-CT: 18F-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography imaging technique, which is now widely used for clinical cancer diagnosis. What is the principle of this technology? What does it have to do with anti-cancer nutrition? Take a look at the story behind them, you may have a new understanding of anti-cancer diet. The story takes place in Germany in 1924, when Otto Heinrich Wahlberg (former director of the Wilhelm the Great Institute of Cell Physiology in Berlin) observed an increase in aerobic glycolysis in cancer cells. Although this scientist was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1931, his understanding of how cancer cells eat has long been ignored by the scientific community. What is glycolysis? Have we ever experienced soreness all over after a short run? This is a manifestation of glycolysis. There are two ways in which blood sugar works: the primary way is to enter the cells and burn them to provide energy, and the secondary way is to turn glucose into lactic acid to provide energy (under conditions of oxygen deficiency). The lactic acid energy supply is the more primitive way of energy supply and is very inefficient. This lactic acid is responsible for the general soreness after a short run. Cancer cells like to turn sugar into lactic acid without lack of oxygen and then eat it. Lactic acid is the main accomplice of cancer cell infiltration, invasion and metastasis, and can easily destroy our human bones and blood vessel walls, allowing cancer cells to pass through and metastasis to occur. Some important findings in medicine, such as metformin can significantly reduce the risk of pancreatic cancer, considering the reason is that metformin inhibits the conversion of other nutrients into glucose in the body. PET-CT was created by scientists using the principle that cancer cells like to eat in this way. Nucleotide-labeled sugars are injected into the body to see if these sugars have gathered abnormally anywhere, which in turn leads to cancer cells. Nutritionists have also taken advantage of this metabolic style favored by cancer cells to adjust the diet of cancer patients to prevent cancer recurrence and slow down cancer progression. Cancer has become a chronic and multi-infection disease. It is imperative to adjust the diet and lifestyle to prevent the occurrence of cancer.
