How long does it usually take to recover from traction on the lumbar spine

Lumbar traction generally takes half a month for the lumbar spine to gradually recover. Lumbar traction is an ideal conservative treatment for patients with mild lumbar disc herniation or spinal stenosis at the beginning or young age. Lumbar traction mainly uses traction and counter-traction to act on the posterior longitudinal ligament and increase the vertebral space to release the compression. It can effectively relieve the soreness and numbness of the lumbar region and ensure normal blood supply to the lumbar tissues. For patients with mild symptoms, they can gradually get relief by lumbar traction for 1-2 weeks. However, for patients over 55 years old with lumbar spine slippage, lumbar traction is not suitable because it may lead to the aggravation of slippage, so the specific situation needs to be judged according to the patient’s condition, symptoms and age. Patients are recommended to go to the orthopedic department or rehabilitation department of the hospital promptly after the appearance of the corresponding symptoms and discomfort, and the doctor will take appropriate measures according to the situation.
