Guidance on quitting smoking and limiting alcohol in patients with hypertension

Because the tar in tobacco, benzopyrene and other harmful substances will not only induce cancer, but also have a serious impact on blood pressure; nicotine and carbon monoxide will cause vasoconstriction, so that blood pressure rises; not only that, smoking will also reduce the effectiveness of drugs. According to statistics, one cigarette will lead to a systolic blood pressure rise of 10-20mmHg, “the first cigarette in the morning” is even more harmful. Therefore, patients with hypertension should not smoke, and even for healthy people, we recommend not smoking. Wine is “the first of all medicines”, since ancient times there is a medicine wine, moderate drinking can promote blood circulation, improve appetite, especially wine, but also has the effect of softening blood vessels. If wine is so good, why should we restrict drinking it? We often say that “too much is not enough”, everything is about a degree. In fact, wine is the “king of all poisons”, because alcohol can make people addicted, drinking is often poorly controlled, and excessive drinking will increase the burden on the liver, which is not conducive to drug excretion, and will make the heart beat faster, leading directly to an increase in blood pressure, so that drinking must be controlled, it is best not to drink. In fact, for hypertensive patients, do not advocate drinking alcohol, but not that you can not drink alcohol, unlike quit smoking so strict, so how much is appropriate? According to the recommendations of the Chinese guidelines for the prevention and treatment of hypertension: men should drink no more than 25 grams of alcohol per day, that is, less than 100-150 ml (2-3 taels) of wine; or less than 250-500 ml (half a catty-1 catty) of beer; or less than 25-50 ml (0.5-1 taels) of white wine; women should reduce the amount by half, and pregnant women should not drink alcohol; it is not advocated to drink highly potent alcohol.
