Common Vascular Malformations

Vascular malformations used to be called “hemangiomas”, but were later classified internationally into “hemangiomas” and “vascular malformations” based on the biological behavior and histological characteristics of the diseased tissue. The former are benign tumors and the latter are developmental malformations. Hemangioma: Hemangiomas are mostly found in infants and young children, and their course can be divided into proliferation, static and regression phases, and some of the affected children can gradually regress on their own after puberty. Treatment methods include laser, oral prednisone in small doses, local injection of paxillin, surgery and other methods of treatment. Vascular malformations: Vascular malformations usually occur in adults, and the common types include: venous malformations, micro venous malformations, arteriovenous malformations, lymphatic malformations and mixed malformations. Treatments for vascular malformations vary depending on the type of lesion and include surgery, drug injections, laser, electrochemical and embolization.
