Women who drink a lot of alcohol are prone to breast cancer! TOKYO, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — A large-scale survey conducted by a research team led by Aichi Medical University professor Masao Kikuchi has shown that women who consume more than 15 grams of alcohol a day are three times more likely to develop breast cancer than those who do not drink alcohol. According to local media reports, the research team followed 36,000 women aged 40 to 79 in 24 regions of Japan for 7 and a half years, and 151 of these women suffered from breast cancer during the survey period. The results of the survey found that those who consumed an average of 15 grams of alcohol or more per day due to alcohol consumption had a 2.9 to 3 times higher risk of breast cancer than non-drinkers. The results also showed that women who consumed less than 15 grams of alcohol per day were not significantly different from non-drinkers in terms of the likelihood of developing breast cancer. Sakuramatsu Hayashi, a lecturer at Aichi Medical University who participated in the survey, said that heavy alcohol consumption leads to an increase in the production of estrogen, which can contribute to the proliferation of breast cancer cells.
