Low concentrations of atropine are useful in the treatment of myopia, but only in the treatment of pseudomyopia. Atropine is an M-blocker that paralyses the ciliary muscle, leaving it in a relatively relaxed state so that it can effectively relieve eye strain and benefit eye health.
There are two main types of myopia, pseudomyopia and true myopia. Pseudomyopia is a condition in which there is no organic pathology in the eye, but mainly due to overuse of the eye and eye fatigue causing continuous contraction and spasm of the ciliary muscle, resulting in blurred vision.
For patients with true myopia who already have organic pathology, the use of atropine drops will not achieve the desired therapeutic effect. However, active application of low concentration atropine drops can effectively delay the development of myopia, that is, effectively inhibit the growth of myopia.
