Elderly diabetes mellitus is called “thirst-quenching” in Chinese medicine, and hyperlipidemia is related to the two pathological factors of “phlegm” and “blood stasis” in Chinese medicine, which can be treated by choosing Er Dong Tang, Yu NĂ¼ Decoction and other formulas to make a poultice to regulate the condition. The formulae such as Er Dong Tang and Yu Nu Decoction can be chosen to make a formula for the treatment. 1. Erdong Tang is composed of dian dong, mai dong, smallpox pollen, scutellaria baicalensis, Zhimu, lotus leaf, licorice, ginseng, and has the efficacy of nourishing yin and clearing heat (nourishing yin and clearing away the heat evil), and generating fluids and quenching thirst (promoting the production of fluids to quench thirst). It is mainly used for treating upper consumption, thirst and excessive drinking. The adverse effects and contraindications of this drug are not clear. 2. Jade Lady Decoction: composed of Gypsum, Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Rhizoma Ophiopogonis, Rhizoma Ophiopogonis, Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae and Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae, it has the efficacy of clearing heat in the viscera and bowels, clearing heat in the stomach and nourishing yin in the kidney. It is used for treating gastric heat and yin deficiency. Symptoms include headache, toothache, loose teeth, epistaxis, irritable heat (agitation and sultriness), dry thirst, red tongue with yellow and dry fur. It also treats thirst, elimination of grain and hunger (eating too much and being hungry easily). The adverse effects of this medicine are not known. This medicine should not be used by people with loose stools. It is recommended that the selection and use of specific formulae should be under medical supervision.
