The “false negative” nucleic acid test for the novel coronavirus has caused some people to panic about the possibility of infection after discharge from the hospital. In fact, there is no need to panic, as a negative nucleic acid test is not the only criterion for discharge from the hospital. According to the “Pneumonia Treatment Protocol for Novel Coronavirus Infection (Trial Version 5 Revised)”, patients can be discharged from isolation only if the following four conditions are met: 1) recovery of body temperature for more than 3 days; 2) significant improvement in respiratory symptoms; 3) significant absorption of inflammation on lung imaging; 4) two consecutive negative nucleic acid tests for respiratory pathogens (at least 1 day between sampling).
