Can running cause varicose veins?

Running does not usually cause varicose veins in the lower extremities, but it is recommended that people with varicose veins in the lower extremities avoid running for long periods of time.
Running is a kind of daily physical exercise, which has the benefits of losing weight and shaping up, strengthening bones, relaxing and relieving stress, soothing emotions, enhancing lung capacity, promoting blood circulation, improving metabolism, and so on. There is no clear contraindication to running and most people can run.
Varicose veins of the lower limbs are mainly caused by weak walls of the veins of the lower limbs, defective venous valves and elevated internal pressure in the superficial veins.
Weak vein walls and venous valve defects are usually associated with genetic factors; they are also associated with a small number of acquired factors, such as prolonged standing, heavy physical labor, pregnancy, chronic coughing, and habitual constipation. Excessive exercise running with faster blood flow may aggravate varicose vein disease.
It is recommended that people without varicose veins, if there are no other uncomfortable symptoms, can exercise and run to promote blood circulation and prevent blood clots. However, people with varicose veins should avoid excessive running.
