Dry vomiting and vomiting are related to chronic pharyngitis, chronic esophagitis, chronic gastritis, and pregnancy. Chronic pharyngitis is located in the throat and is caused by inflammation of the mucous membrane of the throat. Some people with chronic esophagitis will also have dry vomiting when the condition flares up. Dry vomiting in chronic esophagitis is caused by the irritation of the esophageal mucosa and relatively little effect on the stomach, resulting in vomiting without vomiting. Some people will have chronic gastritis. When the gastric mucosa is stimulated by gastric acid, the stomach wall will spasm and contract, leading to dry vomiting in humans. Some women experience dry heaving and cannot vomit because of pregnancy, during pregnancy the body’s hormone secretion will be disrupted, thus causing stimulation to the gastrointestinal system causing dry heaving.
