Painful cracked teeth should be treated symptomatically. If the pain is caused by cracked periodontal tissue, the cracked tooth should be repaired as soon as possible to reduce secondary damage to periodontal tissue caused by mechanical damage to the fractured surface or inflammatory infection due to bacterial build-up.
If the pain is caused by a deep crack in the tooth, root canal treatment should be carried out as soon as possible to remove the infected material, and crown restoration should be carried out after root canal treatment to prevent the tooth from being subjected to occlusal forces that could aggravate the cracked tooth.
For teeth that are completely cracked the affected tooth should be extracted as soon as possible if it has no retention value and restored three months after surgery.
