The main causes of tooth fractures in children are congenital abnormalities in tooth structure and dental trauma. The congenital anomalies in tooth structure should be caused by the developmental stage of the tooth germ, which is irreversible once it occurs, but the developmental deficiencies can be compensated for by restorative means to avoid pulpal infection, or aggravation of the cracked tooth.
Because of the active nature of children, bumps and bruises are inevitable in daily life and trauma to teeth is very common in children, so if a tooth is cracked it should be seen by a paediatric dentist as soon as possible.
