Is stinky farting an early sign of cancer?

Farting odor is usually not an early symptom of cancer. Fart odor may be caused by consuming too much gas-producing food, such as excessive consumption of soybeans, sweet potatoes, radish, etc. After the decomposition of food, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide and other gases are produced, and then fart odor will occur. If the food stays in the intestinal tract for too long, and the decomposition and metabolism is incomplete or abnormal, resulting in the phenomenon of indigestion, fart odor will also occur. Different types of cancers have different early symptoms. For example, the early symptoms of colorectal cancer in digestive system are change of stool habit, positive occult blood, increase in stool frequency, etc., which are generally not related to fart odor. Some colon cancer patients’ tumors are infected, broken and necrotic, which can change the frequency of intestinal peristalsis, thus leading to frequent emission of gas with malodorous smell. If the patient has fart odor, accompanied by abdominal distension, abdominal pain, pus and blood stool and other symptoms, it is recommended to go to the hospital for further examination to find out the cause of the disease and timely treatment.
