Advantages of transnasal lacrimal sac rhinostomy

For patients with nasolacrimal duct obstruction and dacryocystitis, transnasal lacrimal sac rhinostomy rejects the diseased nasolacrimal duct and establishes a new channel, with a success rate of more than 90%, which is higher than that of the unblocking and intubation surgery in the original channel of the lacrimal duct. The transnasal approach hides the surgical scars in the nasal cavity, leaving no facial scars and no change in the patient’s appearance. In terms of esthetics, this surgical approach is clearly superior to the traditional external lacrimal sac nasolacrimal anastomosis. Therefore, transnasal lacrimal sac rhinostomy is known as a minimally invasive treatment of the tear duct with a high surgical success rate.
