Prevention and treatment of burns and scalds

  The commonly referred to burns are thermal, electrical, and chemical burns caused by a variety of factors such as hot water, steam, flame, electric current, acid, alkali, and phosphorus, which are relatively common.  Timely and accurate on-site first aid after the occurrence of burns can lay a good foundation for later treatment. Conversely, unreasonable treatment can delay treatment and hinder healing. Once burned, in addition to the scene should be immediately removed, but also to quickly take off the burning clothes, rinse with tap water. No running water can jump into the nearby shallow pond, river and bay, or use the coverings that are not easy to catch fire, such as coats, blankets, rain cloth, quilts and other covers to put out the fire. If wearing clothes are very tight, you can wear clothes for cold water bath, difficult to take off the clothes barely off will increase the degree of injury.  If it is a head burn, you can take the ice in the freezer, wrap a wet clean towel as a cold compress. Never be afraid to use cold water to flush the burns, as soon as possible to flush cold water can prevent the burn area to expand. If there is no sterile gauze, immediately use an iron to iron over several times or use a hair dryer to blow over a clean woolen handkerchief instead, and gently cover the wound. Never go to apply any kerosene, soy sauce, tobacco or ointment or the like. This is to help, this is most likely to cause bacterial infection, to the hospital after the doctor also spend a lot of effort to clean you, both a waste of time, drugs, and increased pain.  When a burn occurs, in addition to the above treatment, you should also check to see if the nose hairs are burnt, such as being burnt, there is a risk of burning the respiratory tract, if not informed in time to the doctor, pulmonary edema may occur causing breathing difficulties. Also pay attention to whether the eyelashes are burnt and curled, if so, it may burn the eyeballs, which should be promptly told to the doctor at the time of consultation. If you hurt your eyes, don’t rub them or rinse them, put in the right amount of anti-inflammatory eye drops, lie down, and call 120 or rush to a hospital.  If your hand or foot is bleeding from a firecracker, you should quickly use both hands to hold the bleeding part above, with Yunnan Baiyao powder or Panax notoginseng powder to stop the bleeding. If the bleeding is not only large, the application of rubber bands or coarse cloth tied above the bleeding site, elevate the affected limb, the emergency hospital to clear the wound treatment. But the bandage should be loosened every 15 minutes to avoid ischemic necrosis of the affected part.  At present, the prevention of burns in China is still weak, specifically reflected in the incidence of burns is increasing trend, if not curbed, will cause many unnecessary economic losses and social burden. How to improve the prevention of burns, we should do the following: ① vigorously promote the harm of burns to society and families, the adverse effects on family planning, eugenics, and the preventability of burns, to arouse the attention and support of society and relevant government agencies. ②Strengthen the disaster awareness and prevention education of all people ③Utilize the enthusiasm of all medical and nursing staffs to go to the society while carrying out rescue and treatment work, so that it can become a high-level burn prevention propaganda force.
