There is currently no cure. Most patients have a continuous decline in lung function and as the disease progresses, dyspnoea becomes more severe and they often die of respiratory failure. However, the rate of progression varies from person to person, with most patients surviving up to 10 years after the disease and even surviving for up to 20 years.
