Can a new coronavirus inflame the tonsils?

Novel coronavirus infections do not usually result in inflammation of the tonsils. Tonsillitis is a common upper respiratory tract infection that can be caused by a variety of pathogenic microbial infections. Novel coronavirus infections, however, include asymptomatic carriers, mildly ill patients, and severely ill patients. In asymptomatic carriers, the virus can be detected only in the respiratory tract. In mildly ill patients, there is only a mild fever, cough, chills and discomfort, and no symptoms of tonsillitis. In severe patients, the first 3-5 are fever, cough and gradually increasing malaise, also without symptoms of tonsillitis. After a week, the disease gradually worsens and the patient develops accelerated breathing, respiratory failure, and multiple organ damage. Pneumonia with novel coronavirus infection is mostly seen as a gradual worsening of the disease without symptoms of tonsillitis.
