Moderate amounts of vitamin B1 can be beneficial for people with diabetic peripheral neuropathy, but not all diabetics need to take it. Vitamin B1 is a very important member of the B vitamins and has some nerve-nourishing properties. Patients with a long history of diabetes are prone to diabetic peripheral neuropathy, manifested by symptoms such as numbness and tingling in the extremities, at which time vitamin B1 can be used appropriately to improve peripheral nerve damage as prescribed by the doctor. Diabetic patients are prone to B vitamin deficiencies, and can be supplemented according to the results of nutritional assessment. Diabetic patients without B vitamin deficiencies do not require long-term supplementation with large amounts of B vitamins. Patients with diabetes are advised to follow their doctor’s instructions and not to use medication blindly on their own.
