It is not easy for doctors to confirm the diagnosis based on the available information. Pain caused by pulpitis: This is a common reason for dentistry to visit for pain, the pain is characterized by spontaneous and paroxysmal pain, and it is intensified at night. Retrograde pulpitis caused by periodontal disease: it often first shows auriculotemporal pain and facial pain, if the periodontal pocket is deeper and close to the root tip on the periodontal side only, it is not easy to be found. Pulpitis caused by cryptoconjunctivitis: especially cryptoconjunctivitis that is not easily detected by the naked eye often presents with facial pain and is not easily diagnosed. Temporomandibular joint disease: Tearing of joint ligaments, anterior displacement of joint discs, and injury to the posterior region of the joint may manifest as pain in the lateral facial region and auriculotemporal region, which may or may not be accompanied by other symptoms of joint disease such as joint popping and movement limitation. Myofascial gap pain syndrome: It refers to the vasospasm of the opening and closing muscle groups and fascial tendons of the oral and maxillofacial area due to various reasons such as nervous tension, stress, poor rest and sleep, anxiety, etc., making the muscles ischemic resulting in facial pain. Cervical spondylosis: cervical spondylosis causes facial auriculotemporal pain mostly accompanied by numbness and nerve compression symptoms.
