How can deep vein thrombosis be prevented?

There is no specific prevention method for DVT, but maintaining a good lifestyle is the key to reducing its incidence. These include strict smoking cessation, weight control in obese people, regular exercise to avoid sedentary lifestyle, control of blood pressure, blood sugar and lipids within normal limits, avoiding long journeys (trains, flights) of more than 6 hours and taking care of hydration and getting up and moving around when travelling, and people at high risk or with a history of the disease can consult their doctor for anticoagulant medication or wear elastic stockings for prevention.
