When sputum is yellow, it is often indicative of inflammation and not necessarily cancer, and simple primary lung cancer does not usually result in yellow sputum. When the tumour is located in the bronchial lumen and has caused obstructive pneumonia, secondary lung abscess etc., yellow sputum may be coughed up in the morning.
