Diseases associated with yellow sputum include bacterial pneumonia, bronchitis and sinusitis, while white sputum is mostly seen in bronchitis, early stages of pneumonia, bronchial asthma and primary lung cancer. Therefore, the severity of the disease cannot be judged solely on the basis of the colour of the sputum, but needs to be judged comprehensively by combining clinical symptoms, laboratory tests and the cause of the disease.
