On the morning of September 21, 2011, the Department of Gynecology of Tongling People’s Hospital successfully performed a right ovarian giant tumor resection for a 62-year-old patient. The patient, Ms. Wei, had been feeling bloated for 5 years before the operation and thought she was obese but did not seek medical attention. After examination, the patient saw that her abdominal mass was bulging like the size of a full-term pregnancy, and the diagnosis of right ovarian cyst was confirmed by ultrasound and magnetic resonance examination. The tumor was huge with hypertensive disease for many years, so the operation was risky. Before the operation, Dr. Chunxiu Hu, the chief of obstetrics and gynecology, organized the department to discuss the operation plan carefully and invited the anesthesiology department and cardiology department to help evaluate the operation risk and countermeasures. The tumor was measured to be 38cm*35cm*31cm and weighed 15kg, which is rare in clinical practice. The patient has been discharged from the hospital. Experts remind that women over 40 years old should go to the hospital if their abdominal circumference increases or their weight increases to exclude the possibility of ovarian tumor, so as to avoid ovarian tumor torsion, rupture or even cancer.
