Some heart diseases such as acute myocardial infarction and heart failure can cause gastric discomfort.
In acute myocardial infarction, such as lower wall myocardial infarction, the vagus nerve is stimulated by the necrotic myocardium, and gastrointestinal symptoms may occur when there is insufficient cardiac output and insufficient tissue perfusion.
Heart failure can also cause gastrointestinal distress due to decreased myocardial contractility, inadequate tissue perfusion, and gastrointestinal stasis.
Some heart conditions can cause stomach upset, but not all stomach upset is caused by heart problems. Stomach upset caused by heart problems usually has heart symptoms such as chest pain and shortness of breath in addition to symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort.
If you have an upset stomach, it is recommended that you seek medical attention, be diagnosed by a doctor, and follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized treatment.
