What is a child’s black gum?

Blackened gums in children may be caused by melanocytes, which is a normal physiological phenomenon, or it may be caused by external factors, such as a pencil lead poking into the gums of an individual child, causing the gums to darken.
If a child has black gums, there is no need to be overly concerned. Look carefully to see if the child has any symptoms of discomfort before considering whether medical treatment is needed.
