What is an inguinal hernia? How is it treated?

The picture shows a male patient with a left inguinal hernia. An inguinal hernia occurs when a portion of the small intestine enters the inguinal canal. The text in the picture means that an inguinal hernia occurs when an organ, usually the intestinal canal, protrudes through a point or tear in the weak abdominal wall muscles of the inguinal region. A clinical emergency occurs when the blood supply to the herniated intestinal canal is restricted. Surgery is the only effective way to manage this condition .
