Infantile epilepsy can be treated. Infantile epilepsy is usually a congenital disorder of malformed brain development, such as hippocampal hypoplasia, or intracranial infection. When an infant has a seizure it is important to pry the baby’s mouth open to avoid biting their tongue. Then use sedative drugs such as phenobarbital to correct the baby’s abnormal generalized convulsions, followed by long-term low-dose oral carbamazepine and sodium valproate to control the progress of the disease and reduce the recurrence or seizures. Therefore, infantile epilepsy is treatable.
