Inadequate early diagnosis and treatment of diabetic retinopathy

According to the survey results of the Chinese Diabetes Association, the prevalence of diabetes in China is estimated to be as high as 9.7%, and the number of people is close to 100 million. The trend of increasing prevalence is obvious, and the early diagnosis and treatment of its common complication, diabetic retinopathy (DR), is obviously insufficient. As the awareness of the dangers of DR increases and health education becomes more popular, early diagnosis of DR will be emphasized. However, the absolute number of specialized ophthalmologists in China is small, most patients do not receive appropriate professional fundus examinations, and omissions and misdiagnosis in early diagnosis are common; most middle-aged and elderly diabetic populations at the grassroots level have low literacy and do not pay attention to the promotion and education of related knowledge, resulting in a high detection rate of patients with DR in the middle and late stages (stage 3 or above), who eventually become blind and disabled. Our research group initially explores the management and long-term follow-up of diabetic patients based on the image database, summarizes and observes the applicable scope of contrast examination in the prevention and treatment of DR complications in diabetic patients, and proposes preliminary guidelines for the diagnosis and examination of diabetic retinopathy, which may make a choice on the timing of implementing FFA examination in the clinical treatment of DR, in order to change the current situation of no guidance and The current situation of confusion in the selection of examination means and methods. This will improve the early diagnosis rate of diabetic retinopathy and facilitate long-term management to actively control the chronic development and deterioration of the disease.
