Treatment of nasal sinus cancer

Nasal sinus cancer is mainly treated by surgical resection and radiotherapy, which can be combined with chemotherapy, targeted drugs, biological immunotherapy and Chinese herbal medicine. For early-stage nasal cavity cancer and maxillary sinus cancer, surgery is advocated to eradicate them. For middle and late stage patients such as stage III and IV, minor surgery is advocated. This is because if radical surgery is performed, it will cause more damage to the patient’s appearance and function. Because the maxilla and nasal cavity have the function of swallowing, chewing and breathing, the whole removal will cause more damage to the patient’s function and facial appearance, and the patient’s postoperative quality of life will be poor. Nowadays, the application of radiotherapy and chemotherapy drugs makes the surgery smaller and smaller. At present, large resection is not advocated for advanced patients, including the removal of the entire maxilla and the removal of the entire nasal cavity and nasal lateral wall plus the eyeball, and this kind of surgery is now less and less. In advanced stage patients, because they need to cooperate with radiotherapy, they need to perform open window, that is, to enter the nasal cavity through minimally invasive methods such as endoscopy, or to make micro-incision through the oral cavity, and to remove all the tumor visible to the naked eye, so that the maxillary sinus and nasal cavity form a large cavity, which is an aerobic environment and can be treated with radiotherapy again. Because the effect of radiotherapy is weaker in the hypoxic area, i.e. this kind of solid tumor has a stronger effect of radiotherapy in the presence of oxygen, once there is no oxygen, the killing effect of radiation on the tumor is weaker, so surgery is also needed, but this surgery is less damaging to the body. This surgery is combined with radiotherapy and then some chemotherapy, and some patients can achieve better treatment results.
