How to control the symptoms of infection in acute suppurative otitis media?

In the treatment of acute suppurative otitis media, the use of antibiotics to control the infection is the most fundamental treatment. However, because of the special anatomical characteristics of the ear, some other treatment options need to be tailored to the local situation. The middle ear is located deeper in the body, with the outer side in contact with the outside world through the eardrum and the inner side connected to the nasopharynx through the eustachian tube. Therefore, in early treatment, in addition to the application of antibiotics, medication through the nasal cavity is needed to improve the function of the eustachian tube and drain the secretions while relieving pain. In the late stage, after the pus forms a perforated eardrum, in addition to the above mentioned medications, it is necessary to clean the external ear canal with hydrogen peroxide and use ear drops containing antibiotics. The infection can usually be controlled with aggressive treatment in 3-5 days, but there are exceptional patients who may require about 2 weeks.
