What is the cause of sleepwalking

  Sleepwalking is a strange phenomenon in which the patient appears to get out of bed and walk or other activities during sleep, and then return to bed to continue sleeping, which is abnormal sleep. During normal sleep, REM and non-REM sleep intermittently occur, about 90-100 minutes as a cycle, and 5-6 cycles per night, while sleepwalking mostly occurs in the non-REM period, and the symptoms are usually walking around in one’s residence in a half-awake state.  The causes of sleepwalking are mainly the following aspects: 1, genetic factors: related research proves that the chances of sleepwalking are higher for those whose immediate family members have had sleepwalking phenomenon; 2, developmental factors: the rate of sleepwalking in children is higher than that in adults, considering that it is related to the development of cerebral cortex, and the phenomenon of sleepwalking gradually disappears with age, more in men than in women; 3, psychological factors: daily life is stressful, and psychological relaxation is not effective. Mental high tension, long-term lead to neurosis or schizophrenic people sleepwalking incidence is higher; 4, living habits: long-term stay up late leading to sleep deprivation, take a lot of tea, coffee and other excitatory drinks, a lot of tobacco and alcohol addiction, sleep environment changes, etc. affect sleep, triggering sleepwalking phenomenon appears.  Usually, sleepwalking is normal when it occurs in childhood, and there is no need for treatment if the attacks are infrequent, but it is necessary to ensure the safety of the patients when the attacks occur; adults who have long-term attacks need to pay attention to it, overcome psychological pressure, seek professional help if necessary, and go to regular hospitals for examination and treatment.
